When your loved one is moving into dementia care, it’s normal to think about what their days will look like and how they’ll spend their time.
Routine and familiarity matter more to those living with dementia than people realise.
At The Anchorage, dementia activities are incorporated into everyday life, with a full calendar of activities ranging from crafts and painting to exercise and gardening. Our residents can also enjoy plenty of exciting off-site trips to local villages, shops, cafes and parks.

Our dementia care therapy in West Sussex invites residents to take part in dementia activities that suit how they’re feeling on the day, whether that’s needing social connection or quiet time alone.
All activities and therapies are guided by our dedicated team, all trained in dementia care, with experience supporting our residents as memory and thinking change over time.
Types of Dementia We Support
The Anchorage dementia carers support our residents living with different types and stages of dementia. Each form of dementia affects people differently, so we adapt dementia activities and daily routines to suit individual needs.
We support…
Alzheimer’s disease
For our residents living with Alzheimer’s, familiar routines and reminiscence-based dementia activities are part of everyday life. Recognisable patterns, photographs and shared memories help our residents feel more settled throughout the day.
Lewy body dementia
In Lewy body dementia, our team closely monitors how your loved one feels at different times of day. Calmer spaces and flexible activities are often more comfortable, particularly during periods of confusion or low concentration.
Vascular dementia
For our residents living with vascular dementia, we plan activities at a comfortable pace. Energy levels are monitored closely, with breaks offered whenever they’re needed.
Frontotemporal dementia
Support for frontotemporal dementia is guided by personal history and fixed routines. That’s because consistency helps our residents manage changes in behaviour or communication in a way that feels more familiar.
Feel free to arrange a visit to Anchorage to meet our staff and experience our fantastic facilities.

Supporting Life at Our Dementia’s Care Home
Our dementia activities are adjusted gradually as your loved one’s needs change, without turning their day upside down or introducing unnecessary disruption.
Cognitive & Therapeutic Sessions
Dementia activities will take place throughout the day and are adapted depending on how our residents are feeling.
Creative activities for dementia are kept simple and practical, so that residents are not overwhelmed and can enjoy the sessions.
We use music therapeutically, sometimes playing gently in the background and other times enjoyed together in small groups. Reminiscence sessions use personal, familiar objects and shared memories to encourage conversation and recognition in a relaxed way.
When your loved one needs a calmer environment, quieter rooms with softer lighting and sensory items are also available, ensuring they are settled and comfortable.
Social Engagement & Community Interaction
Social time at The Anchorage happens naturally throughout the day, with our residents spending time together in lounges, over meals, in the garden or chatting over a brew.
Group activities, such as quizzes, bingo or seasonal events, take place on certain days, and our residents are welcome to join in when they feel comfortable. Off-site trips on our travel bus are an essential part of life here too, with visits to local villages, coffee shops and parks regularly arranged when possible.
Physical Wellbeing & Movement
Movement is encouraged in everyday ways at The Anchorage to keep our residents healthy and mobile.
Our residents can walk around the home, spend time outdoors in the secure garden and move between areas as part of their normal routine.
But for those who enjoy something more structured, seated movement sessions are available.
When balance or mobility needs closer attention, our staff are on hand to offer calm, practical support.
Personalised Daily Routines
Your loved one’s daily routine will be based on what they were used to before moving into The Anchorage.
Mealtimes, rest periods and familiar dementia activities are kept consistent, helping the day feel easier to follow.
These routines form part of our dementia care therapy in West Sussex.
Thanks to familiar faces, recognisable patterns and known surroundings, our residents can move through their day with confidence and comfort.
