Little Birds Forest Nursery Visit The Anchorage & Help Launch Hedgehog Habitat Project
Residents at The Anchorage welcomed children from Little Birds Forest Nursery this week for another enjoyable intergenerational visit, which also marked the start of the home’s new Hedgehog Habitat Project.
The morning began with the children exploring the home’s autumn gardens, collecting leaves in small wheelbarrows and placing them inside a newly built hedgehog house. Residents watched on from the path and the benches, commenting on the children’s care and teamwork as they worked out where everything should go. After a bit of discussion between the children, staff and residents, a sheltered spot under a bush was chosen as the perfect place for the new hedgehog home.

The next step in the project will be installing a night-vision camera so that residents and nursery staff can keep an eye on any hedgehogs that decide to settle in and make it their home.
Once everyone came back indoors, the children spent time with residents, sharing their wooden toys, chatting and showing how confident they’ve become with each visit. Books and singing rounded off the session, bringing plenty of smiles to the lounge.

A resident at The Anchorage said, “I just love seeing their smiles, it brightens my whole day.”
The Anchorage team thanked the Little Birds staff for their support and for helping build a strong connection between the nursery and the home.
These visits form part of our wider intergenerational work, bringing people of different generations together to share experiences, learn from one another and enjoy time together.
