Care home resident enjoys surprise visit to golf course after 20 years
One of Austenwood Care Home’s residents has been granted a ‘magic moment’, enjoying a surprise visit to his golf course.
Patrick, a resident of the Austenwood Care Home in Gerrards Cross, was surprised with a visit to his golf club that he used to be a member of for 72 years.
Moving into the care home in 2021, Patrick loves spending time outdoors in the garden and that is often where he would speak about his time as a golfer. So knowing his love for golf, lifestyle coordinator Shannon McLeod decided to take him back to the golf course that he joined when he was just 14-years-old.
Shannon, and an old friend who often visits Patrick at the home, made arrangements and worked with the golf course to make the surprise happen.
Patrick enjoyed a ride in a golf cart and was treated to lunch. The surprise continued when he was later joined by all his old golfing friends.
Ana Ciobotaru, care home manager at Austenwood Care Home said:
“It’s always a pleasure to go the extra mile for our residents. It’s part of what our lifestyle team is focussed on, enriching our resident’s lives with events and activities that they love. We’re honoured to have been able to bring a smile to Patrick’s face and hope he can continue to make many more happy memories with us here at Austenwood.”
