A Wonderful First Dementia Cafe At Pulborough Village Hall
The Anchorage Care Home held its very first Dementia Cafe last month at The Meadows Room in Pulborough Village Hall.

Residents, families, carers, local organisations and members of the wider community all came together for what turned out to be a really special morning and it was a meaningful reminder of how much spaces like this matter for people living with dementia and those who support them.

A number of local professionals and organisations came along to offer advice and information on the day, which made a real difference for many attendees. A huge thank you goes to Lynn and Isla from PDCCA, Lottie the Pulborough Community Warden, Ross and Louisa from the Billingshurst Community Warden Team, Megan from Age UK, Jeni and Naomi from W. Bryders and Sons and Maria from Mary How Trust. Having so many helpful faces under one roof meant visitors could access support and local services in a relaxed, friendly setting.

Tea, coffee and homemade cakes from The Anchorage’s chefs kept everyone going throughout the morning, while entertainment from Rustyn George was a clear highlight of the day. His performance had guests singing along and dancing to classic songs and we will be sharing a separate article about it very soon. Activity books were also on hand and proved a real hit, with residents and visitors enjoying them together.

The feedback received following the event has been overwhelmingly positive, with many attendees expressing how valuable and uplifting the Dementia Cafe was for both individuals living with dementia and their loved ones.

One community visitor said:

“It was such a lovely morning and so wonderful to see everyone smiling, singing and enjoying themselves together. Events like this are so important for bringing people together and helping families feel supported. Well done to you all. We will certainly be coming back next month and telling our friends”

Following such a strong response, The Anchorage is pleased to confirm the next Dementia Cafe will take place on Tuesday, 9th June. Everyone is welcome, and the team looks forward to seeing some familiar (and new) faces
there.
